SJMBC Membership and Commitment Form
This is a membership form form The St. John Missionary Baptist Church. We believe that
Scripture clearly points out the need for every Christian to identify with a local church.
Ephesians 4:25 says that we are “members of one another.” Church membership is the way we
express that oneness.
In becoming a member of this church, you are making a commitment first to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is its Head. You are pledging your loyalty to Him; to love Him, obey Him, and to give yourself regularly to the study of His Word and praying to Him.
And because the church is His body, you are making a commitment to love this church as He does; to submit to the loving leadership of the Pastor, leaders and members of this church, to seek to discover your own spiritual gifts and to use them for the edification of the body, to
support the work of this church with your spiritual and material resources as God prospers, and to faithfully gather together with the other members of this church for worship, teaching, fellowship, and outreach.
But becoming a member of this church also means that we are making a commitment to you;
to provide you with the spiritual oversight of the Pastor, to feed you the Word of God, to do all we can to care for your spiritual, physical, and emotional needs, to help you discover and use your spiritual gifts, and to see you reach your highest potential as a Christian.
It is the desire of the Pastor that the process of becoming a member of this church be an exciting step in your life. If you have any questions about the application, or feel hesitant for any
reason, we would be glad to talk with you.

10 Things SJMBC Expects From You
- That you remain submitted to the Lordship of Jesus. Colossians 1:18
- That you respect the spiritual authorities God has set in this church and the delegated authorities established by the Pastor. I Peter 5:1-3
- That you be willing to grow in maturity and release your God-given gifts. Ephesians 4:11,12
- That you be willing to work to build the ministry. I Peter 4:10,11
- That you be faithful in your financial support ( tithes and offerings). Acts 4:33-37
- That you walk in love and forgiveness with your brothers and sisters in the family of God. I Thessalonians 5:23
- That you be receptive to the preaching and teaching of God’s word. Acts 20:27,28
- That you be a Godly person. Deuteronomy 6:3-8
- That you faithfully attend church worship and participate in church ministries. Colossians 1:27,28
- That you be personally committed to worship, the word, and witnessing and the advancement of the kingdom of God in our community and in the world. Acts 1:8
10 Things You Can Expect From SJMBC
- We will submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ as head of this Church and stay in tune with the spirit of God. Matthew 6:33
- We will make every effort to provide loving pastoral care. Hebrews 13:7,17
- We will equip you to fulfill your personal calling. II Peter 3:18
- We will help you release your God-given gifts into the church with many opportunities to serve. I Corinthians 15:58
- We will be diligent stewards of your financial support. Malachi 3:10
- We will provide holistic ministries to meet your needs. Ephesians 4: 1-3
- We will teach the whole counsel of God’s word. Romans 10:17
- We will train and instruct your children in the word of God. Proverbs 22:7
- We will provide a full range of activities to involve the entire family. Hebrews 10:25
- We will advance the kingdom of God in our community and in the world. Acts 17:10-14

Church COVENANT
The following is my covenant with the Lord:
Having been led as we believe by the spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and
regularly to support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations..
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek
the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our
dealings; faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of, destructive drugs or intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to shun pornography; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with
some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s
Word.
